This news update from the Creative NZ blog (link below) looks at the return of local government focus and obligation to provide opportunities within our communities for engagement in creative arts. Be that music, drama or visual arts – it's vital to have the chance to create.
I'm a passionate advocate for creative engagement – at all ages and stages in our lives. I truly believe that creativity has the power to cultivate change. But for many, even the thought of getting messy with paint or clay freaks them out. And this is partly way it's important. Whilst it might be outside our normal mode of operation, and possibly outside our comfort zone, giving ourselves permission to play, removing some of the hard and fast rules and boundaries we have in place for our protection, allows us to think differently. It allows our minds to expand, and our hearts to sing. Even better if you can create alongside others. Creativity, collaboration and communication work together to improve well-being outcomes.
'Healthier people, improved education outcomes, greater social cohesion and an increase in job opportunities are all examples of how engaging with the arts improves the lives and well-being of New Zealanders.' (from Creative NZ)
You can check out makeyourmark.nz if you have a workplace, team, event where facilitated arts-based learning can assist.
